A few resources:
As we get more mature, we recognise that we will inevitably be dying sometime. There are many articles on this topic, and we have just picked a few that probably have a wider interest. We have also highlighted some other resources that may be of value.
• Hospice Provides specialised, compassionate care for individuals with terminal, life-threatening illnesses, focusing on pain management, comfort, and quality of life rather than finding a cure. It involves a multidisciplinary team providing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual support to patients and their families, often in the home, both before and after death. Hospice Witwatersrand has rebranded themselves and are now called Greendale House Palliative and Hospice Care Houghton. Their website is https://greendalehouse.co.za
• Organ Donation: People our age generally think that our organs are too worn out to be of use to anyone else (especially our livers!). However the organ donation organisation says that some items from mature folk can still be useful, such as corneas, skin, etc. You can register on https://odf.org.za/ or phone them on: 0800-22-66-11.
• Funeral Directors: There are many funeral directors, and some that people we know have found to be very good and supportive are as follows: Click to get their web sites:: Avbob; Thomas Kight; Sonja Smith
• Love, Legacy, Dignity: This is a Jhb based organisation that provides good advice and workshops. Go to web site https://lovelegacydignity.com/
End of Life Doulas: Not many people will have heard of them, but they could be of great value to some people. GO…
• Crossing the Creek: Several people have found that this lengthy article on the process of dying is very well worth reading. GO…
